Olivia Shortt, saxophone; Alexandra Smither, soprano; Aliayta Foon-Dancoes, violin; Isidora Nojkovic, cello

This exciting program features new works for voice, strings, and saxophone highlighting improvisation, Indigeneity, and the many shapes that the voice can take. All works are recently created by Anishinaabe-Irish artist Olivia Shortt in collaboration with Canadian duo Orbit (Aliayta Foon-Dancoes and Isidora Nojkovic) and British-Canadian soprano Alexandra Smither. The program highlight is bagaskaadagaazii, a work first commissioned in 2020 by the Orbit Duo and later re-imagined in 2021 that speaks about the clean water crisis and lack of access to clean drinking water on reservations all over what is currently known as Canada.

Midday Escape with Vaughan Williams
Members of the COC Orchestra

Artists of the COC Orchestra celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams with an afternoon of pieces from and inspired by the composer. Joined by tenor Marcel d’Entremont, the chamber ensemble will play Ludlow and Teme by Gurney and the Vaughan Williams quintet in C minor.
