• By Popular Demand: Top Videos of the 2018/2019 Season

    By COC Staff

We love introducing you to our mainstage productions and the regular people – with extraordinary voices – that make them happen. And it looks like you love that too! We’ve rounded up six videos that many of you liked, shared, and commented on from our 2018/2019 season for an encore presentation.

    EUGENE ONEGIN | Letter Scene

This clip of soprano Joyce El-Khoury performing Tatyana's Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin was one of the first times we shared an excerpt of an aria on social media! The response was incredible, so we continued sharing various excerpts for all of our 2018/2019 operas. Joyce returns to the COC stage in the fall as Liù in Puccini's Turandot.

    HADRIAN | Behind the Scenes

Getting a world premiere on its feet is always an exciting project, but it's even more thrilling when you have an incredibly talented cast that includes opera legends Thomas Hampson and Karita Mattila! In September, we gave you a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the rehearsal process ahead of October's world premiere of Rufus Wainwright and Daniel MacIvor's Hadrian.

ELEKTRA | Offstage with Christine Goerke

This season we introduced a new interview series titled, Offstage — bringing you closer to opera's greatest stars through casual, fun conversations. In this clip, soprano Christine Goerke discusses her 2019 resolutions, her most embarrassing moment on stage, and the one thing opera needs more of!

COSÌ FAN TUTTE | "Soave sia il vento"

There's no doubt that Mozart's Così fan tutte features some of the most beautiful music ever written — and the trio "Soave sia il vento," is the opera's crowning jewel. In this excerpt, Kirsten MacKinnon (Fiordiligi), Emily D'Angelo (Dorabella), and Russell Braun (Don Alfonson), perform the beloved trio in this stunning scene from Atom Egoyan's production. Next season, Emily D'Angelo returns as Rosina in Rossini's The Barber of Seville and Russell Braun will sing the role of Peter in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel.

LA BOHÈME | Hear it First: Angel Blue's Mimì

This clip also represented the birth of a new video series this past season — Hear it First. Hear it First brings you into the rehearsal room for an intimate performance by one of our mainstage stars. With over 30,000 views, this video was our most successful of the 2018/2019 season — it reached a whopping 70,000 people and was shared over 450 times on Facebook. In this clip, soprano Angel Blue performs an excerpt of "Sì, mi chiamano Mimì" from Puccini's La Bohème.

OTELLO | Hear it First: Tamara Wilson's Desdemona

After the success of the first Hear it First video, we had to follow-up with a second! In this clip, soprano Tamara Wilson takes us into the rehearsal room for a performance of Desdemona's haunting "Ave Maria" from Verdi's Otello. Tamara will be joining us next season as the title roles in both Puccini's Turandot and Verdi's Aida!
